Black structures reign in ancient space
Street painted bunkers sit in ornamental shrub land

Rows of postcard dwellings sit together
Gossiping at the ever moving procession

Bearing witness to a beauty beyond thought
Water carved in soil, rolling hills changing colour in the distance

Smoky lanterns dotted on the riverbank
Homesteads in grand little glory

Simple beyond the capital treadmill
Brother and sister in interlocking arms

A fiery boy in search of a new frontier
Wide eyed with fist and teeth
Fighting for every handful of dust

And she sits smiling at his abandonment
Knowing he’ll return when his body gives way
